Because of the magic of radio and the passion of the community a new idea is forming even more rapidly than its organizers expected.
Regular fill-in host for Scott Hennen, John Trandem, spoke with Hennen about his idea to display flags downtown that symbolize “a celebration of life”. Trandem said that he would like to coordinate the week-long display with the 40 Days For Life campaign that encourages people to pray for the ending of abortion.
Trandem says that he has contacted the Downtown Community Partnership about the application process and was told that the application is currently under review but that review is being expedited to help Trandem reach his late September deadline.
Trandem discussed the idea with Hennen on AM 1100, during that conversation two $50 donations were given over the phone and one came in by email. In the 24 hours following that interview with Hennen Trandem says that 10 to 12 other donations have come to help fund the purchase of the flags.
He says that there is still quite a bit of leg work left to be done “I need to get number of flags needed and then get bids for having them made but I am confident that this will get off the ground quickly.”
Trandem who lives in North Dakota and owns a business in Minnesota created a Facebook page in his spare time called Citizens United to End Abortion in ND. The page has 1,290 members to date.
Trandem acknowledges that at first blush the idea seems very controversial but “How can anyone who is alive object to a celebration of life?”
