NDSU College Republicans are reacting to a request by Earl Pomeroy to remove a game during a back-to-school event.
The club set up a game at their booth that illustrated the cost of deficit spending and claimed that Pomeroy had voted for increased spending. Members of Pomeroy’s reelection campaign contacted university officials asking that the game be removed. College Republicans staffing the booth say that the NDSU officials that approached them about the request were very professional.
Jeremy Douglas Chairman of the College Republicans said “Not only does Representative Pomeroy refuse to talk about how his policies have increased the federal debt; he doesn’t want anyone else to talk about it either.” NDSU junior Brock Schmeling said “I just can’t believe an eighteen-year Congressman feels threatened by a simple game pointing out the increase in the federal debt.” Schmeling was working at the booth when the request to remove the game was made.
Douglas said “It’s shocking that Pomeroy’s campaign would go so far as to call the University to ask to take down our game because he doesn’t want to talk about his record.” Douglas pointed out that the college did not require that the game be removed but gently asked that the group consider taking the game down.
Douglas said “We did not take down the game and the event only lasted a short time after our members were approached.”
