FORT TOTTEN, ND – The Spirit Lake Sioux tribe, outspoken supporters of the University of North Dakota’s controversial “Fighting Sioux” nickname, will make what they’re describing as a “major announcement” tomorrow at the tribal headquarters in Fort Totten, ND.

“The Spirit Lake Nation, through its Tribal Council and the Committee for Understanding and Respect, will make a major announcement regarding the next step in their ongoing efforts to preserve the use of the Fighting Sioux name and logo by the University of North Dakota,” reads an advisory sent to the media.

The announcement will happen Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at 10:00 am central time in the conference room of the Spirit Lake Nation Tribal Headquarters.

  1. Spirit Lake Dakota Nation can not force UND to do anything.

How sad that of all the ND legislative bills that could have legitimately helped Native Americans, this is the only one that Spirit Lake seems concerned about.

    • Funny how the Spirit Lake Dakota Nation can not force UND to do anything but the NCAA can?!   Seems like UND and the NCAA are the racists here and are the only ones wanting to purge any ethnic or national pride in one’s heritage.  That is the main goal for the global community thinkers. (One World Government pushers)   Must be yours too.   Then you throw a low blow with that remark about how the Spirit Lake Tribe should have been concerned about other ND legislative bills that would have helped the tribes?  How do you know they weren’t concerned?  Perhaps they had no problem with those other bills, otherwise they would have said something.   Ya think?   You have shown your true colors today.  How sad that you can’t get rid of your own racism.
